Livewell Plug?

I have a leak in my live well plumbing. Specifically, its the O-ring around my cartridge pump. Until I replace the live well pump, my plan is to insert a plug on the outside of the boat (where the water intake is located). The water intake port appears to be 5/8", and it appears to be threaded on the inside. I've seen 5/8" live well plugs, but they're smooth on the outside, like they're intended to be used inside the actual live well. Does anyone know if these plugs can also be used on the water intake? is there a different plug to be used? Thanks!

If the plug fits tightly, it will work. Even a cork would do the job. JMHO!

Depends on the drain plumbing. Might have to plug that too.

Note: The intake and drain might be plastic and be unable to take the plug being as tight as a typical drain plug in the ply/fiberglass transom drain hole. Just tighten enough that the plug doesn't fall out easily. Water pressure will then hold it.

Lose the plug and fill the bilge with water. Sounds like a bad plan especially if the bilge pump doesn't work either. Fix the problem.
