I have been able to register this boat with the info that the PO had but I believe it to be incorrect. It is registered as a 1975 Bayliner but I think the lines and windshield is more 60's. The motor is definitely a 63 according to the model and serial #. There is no HIN on the boat but there is a plate on the port side inside the transom that is 17 539 63.

Don't know the year but wrap around windshields were popular on boats in the '60s. Could be a typo when registered and it should be a 1965. The lines and trim suggest middle '60s.

my guess since the tag on the transom was cut in half, the last 2 digits are separated from the rest and read 63, I'm going to suggest its a 1963 something that was stolen at one time, and then incorrectly registered as a bayliner to hide the fact it was stolen

HIN's started showing up early 70's

I'm wondering if that boat was badged for Sears. Elgin was one name plate they used, but you could buy all manner of stuff from Sears back then. Maybe do a Google search for 1960s Sears runabout boat.

Welcome aboard.

Welcome aboard.

On the registration paperwork, what number is in the HIN/serial number box?

GA_Boater, There was no paperwork when I purchased the boat from a guy, who never registered it, who purchased it from another individual who supposedly was the one who registered it last. It did have a registration number on the hull and state permits shich indicated it was a 75 Bayliner.. I registered it with the state with little problem and insured it with no problem. when I told my agent I had nothing but the serial number on that plate she told me she would follow up and send me a binder in an email. Pretty normal operation. I only gave her the serial number on the plate but when I received the binder it showed the boat as a 1975 Bayliner Extreme. I would like to find out exactly what it is for my own curiosity. It is in pretty good shape and intend on using it a lot but would definately like to know the make, model, and year. I asked the DMV if I could change the registration if I researched it and found the proper info and they indicated yes.

Scott Danforth, I agree that the last 2 numbers are the date stamp. Another clue that may help is the logo or emblem that is on both gunwales. The oblong steering wheel, No ribs on the sides. I really appreciate all the help and suggestions so far.

I would start looking at fiberglassics to look up the emblem / logo

If the boat is regged as a 1975 model, if you ever get looked at by a LEO, you have no HIN. That could lead to more troubles.

It may be worthwhile to check with the state to have them issue a HIN - Saves you a lot of potential grief.

I had a very similar boat that looked like that years ago....It was a 63 model. I can't remember the brand though.
I do remember it had no HIN.

Cool old boat though!

$10 says you have a 1963-ish Hydroswift. My first boat was a '64 Hydroswift, looked almost identical, but I have no pics--

But I DID find this pic of a for-sure 1963 Hydroswift-- Note the lines and windshield are the same. Some came with removable hardtops (mine did) some not. Two other giveaways- you have to look close at the red boat but they're there-- one, the pad(s)on the gunwales, and two, the storage compartment on the sides inside are the same...

That would make sense since I am in Utah. The lines are very similar and the side pockets. I checked out the 1963 brochure on fiberglassics and even the dash is the same. I need to get documentation to support my efforts to change the title. I could only find data for most makes to 1962 and from 1965 on.Why the split in years I wonder? Thank you Frantically Relaxing!

Just remembered mine was a 63' too, the Merc 100 on the back was a '64... I'm in Utah too, sitting about 4 miles from where they used to build 'em!
another giveaway, the nearly dead-flat hull out back! :)
