Wanting a down-imaging fish-finder, and galyans has a hummingbird for 160.00....Just thought I might get a yes or no from those that are familiar with down-imaging. Am I wasting my $$ on this smaller outfit? Do the cheaper ones work alright? tks.

Ya know i have a 688CI DI HD and i just dont find any of it much use. What i do like is the GPS, Speed, Temp, Depth.
The DI is ok but i could live with out it for sure maybe its because i live by a big deep lake. I know its not a direct comparison but i would look for other features first.

I have 2 down imaging units. Each cost well over $1000. For usual boating I like them a lot. They show a picture-like view of the bottom. Really neat!

However, when fishing I usually switch them over to regular sonar because there I get better identification of the FISH.

It all depends on your goal. But in retrospect I would never buy one again unless it could go both ways.
