When a picture is worth 1000 words.

this is what happens to stainless when zincs are not maintained in a marina

everything below the waterline is gone...

I do not have the history of the boat, however believe its a 2002/2003 vintage

Could easily believe that if it were steel or aluminum but ...stainless steel???? Wow, hard to believe....great lesson here!!

If the source was any other than the knowledgeable guys here on iboats, I would argue...holy schnikes...that is corrosion exponentiated!!!

Hard time convincing me that bracket is completely "stainless". Too many different "colors" in the mix. The green would lead me to believe they used a copper base bottom paint which fueled the cocktail

I can fully guarantee the material is 1/2 plate 316L stainless and the bushings are aluminium bronze. Turns out the unit is a 2004 and the zincs were never replaced

It's curious that the trim tabs haven't suffered much at all.

actually it reminds me of the metal after exposure to the acid blood in "Alien"

I am going to guess and say that was probably in salt. That is terrible.

The aluminum bronze bushings would explain it. The 3-5% Fe content of AB wasn't helping..
