Anyone have any idea why the weight of the 1983 model scorpion is so high compared to the year previous and after. Looking at getting one, but worried that if the weight is right, that it can be a nightmare to tow. 2800lb seems nuts for a 18 foot bowrider.

The difference in weight is about 600lbs. If thats the difference between an easy tow and a nightmare, theres something else going on.

2800 sounds about right to me, 2200 sounds light for an 18ft bowrider fiberglass I/O.

Thanks for the responses, but I have had several 18 foot boats in the past, and they were all around 2000lbs. The real confusion for me on this is that if you look at the specs for the same model Chris Craft 18' bowrider, 1982 and the 1984 models, they are both around 2100lbs. Both should be pretty similar to the 1983 model, or so I would think. Just seems weird that they would make one year that much heavier.

Jeep - You might try contacting Chris Craft. All the info in the boat specs originally used Chris Craft as the source. NADA has the same weight of 2800, so maybe Chris Craft had/has a typo in their supplied specs.
