Hopefully the mechanic didn't drill the holes bigger. If there is wood structure under there, the wood should be sealed to prevent the water from absorbing in to it.

I have emailed Crestliner about this situation, whether or not there are supposed to be drain holes in these compartments. They haven't responded, which I expected. Funny though, if you go on their website and build a boat you MAY be interested in purchasing...you get swamped with emails from them.
