I've always been a trailer guy and this is my second season having a boat moored in a Mooring Field.
Today, when pulling her out, I came across to others in the same field pulling their mooring anchors.
I just had to ask.. Why?

Both said they have had their chains break. One after 2 years, the other after 3 years.

I'm about to go back out next weekend and pull mine after hearing this.

Is this what you guys do?

Only way I see a chain breaking after 2 years is it was not galvanized and it was probably smaller then 3/8 inch. A 1/4 inch high test chain will take quite a while to wear down, but cheap steel chain can take less. most use cheap chain at the hardware store. Use 1/2 chain and it will last a long time.

What are you using?

Edit: wonder if someone is steeling the morning and cutting the chain to make it look like it's breaking
