There is definitely a lot of Motor noise in those. Your 2002 is basically the same boat as the 2005 I had. Good boats. Should top out around 46-48 with the right prop trimmed out and weight distributed in the boat.

Starter access is pretty good as long as the bolts come out.

I feel betrayed...

Thanks! I'm glad to hear the good reports on it. It definitely runs nice when it warms up ... and if I can nudge another few MPH outta' it that would be fun. The impound we go to mostly is pretty good size and it'd be nice to cover the complete distance a little more quickly.

Starter looks real easy to get to. I think it looks like the engine "dog house" will come completely away from the engine in two pieces leaving a lot of working space. But that ain't happening this week.

Yup, if it is like the one I had the upper just lifts off and the lower slides off giving all sorts of access to the little motor within.

Any room in the dog house to add some sound barrier material?

People over on BOC have done it, but it also traps in a lot of heat. Wouldn't be real high on my list of items to do unless you are really good about running the blower a long time before trying to restart a hot engine.

I looked at that, and OJ just confirmed what I was thinkin' (thanks!). Regardless, that's way low on the priority list. Most of us - except that lab, apparently - can get past the noise factor for the time being at least.

I didn't have any problems keeping my 2005 195 classic in the garage, even without folding the tongue in.
... well, it fit. MUCH better than I expected.

Ran it a bunch today. Low idle is funky. Started reading DonS primer on tune ups for Mercs last night. That's probably the next step.

Try running some 91 octane through it. My 3.0l ran poorly on anything less.

Hey Joe, sorry I missed your post.

We are planning that we'll be out over the weekend some - we've gone out twice without the dogs and they're considering an Orwellian revolt :) Not sure which day(s) yet. I'm sure we'll go to Priest - just for the convenience factor. If the traffic is too stupid we can pull the plug and come home without much loss.

Weather is a pure guess right now. Hotter'n heck during the week ... hot and rainy on the weekend

SIDE NOTE: Took the Silverline out for a ride last night. Have been on the Bayliner twice since I brought her home, and hadn't been on the Silverline at all. I actually ground the starter once 'cuz I didn't realize the engine was running  I mentioned how loud the power plant is in the Bayliner, but did that ever come to light last night!! That ole' inline 6 is a real "hush-a-drive" compared to the Bayliner.

But, I will concede ... the tri-hull is a bumpier ride even in reasonably smooth water.

Funny I hit the water yesterday to test out the Carver (back in shop today so no Priest for us the little boat would be too little) and there was zero people/trucks at the ramp. Usually at least a couple. There was 2 when I got back a few hours later. Ran about 40 minutes around 25 mph and saw a couple pontoons and a couple bowriders. Very nice running (when it ran) an essentially empty lake on a beautiful day.

We'll probably just hit Tims for a couple times with a friend and use his pontoon as the party barge and pull their kid on Big Mable behind the Lonestar.

I've owned a couple Bayliners only one runabout it was a 1990 2051 (the legendary L Drive) but loved the ride. I almost bought a new 1950 like yours - in 1996 it still had the square corners on the windshield but essentially the same and since it is 'classic' not euro you get a bit more interior instead of swim platform. I did and do like the look of the Classic but my (ex) wife liked the euro look. Should have known....

Escort trailer is what Bays come with and they are pretty stripped down. You can of course add your own center rollers but it sounds like you only have a few miles to the ramp.

I've got a bit of noise on the Carver not too bad but... I've looked into this http://www.dynamat.com/automotive-an...ynamat-xtreme/ Haven't done it yet. Some other options I've read about on the net plus I believe I had a thread here on the subject. Seem to remember Bondo telling me he got his material out of the dumpster. Lucky guy...

If you ever need info specific to the Bay, as much as I hate to, I'd recommend the Bayliners Owners Club. Just don't pay attention to the 'cool kids' having inside jokes on your thread, don't try to be funny (the mods hate that unless you're a cool kid) and for goodness sakes do not disagree with the cool kids or the mods even on a boat subject. That'll put a target on you. Fortunately, the Bay is simple and the merc is a merc...

Good luck and hope to get to Priest someday.

Where'd you put in? Normandy?

You pretty much described Priest from last night ... beautiful night. Well ... except for the fishy smell in shore

It towed all the way back from Michigan just fine. The only thing that I don't like about it is that the boat wants to rock when it isn't resting on the bow roller. Otherwise it does just fine. I might add a keel roller between the bunks and the bow at some point ... but nothing I'm worried about now.

Noise isn't so bad to get past ... I'll lube a buncha' stuff that probably needs it this weekend and see what that does. Gotta' try bumping the octane up and see what that effect is. Otherwise, we'll deal with it for a while. I find it more curious than annoying.

No I hit Tim's in the big boat, little one on Normandy but man is that lake junky. Went a few miles up the river and there were THOUSANDS of plastic bottles floating around. REally sad it is a beautiful run otherwise.

I noticed that last time we were on Normandy - lots of debris on that lake which is sad because it really is a pretty lake. We haven't been out there this year, but I hope it gets cleaned up ... the water is so much nicer there than on the South end of Priest.

oh and do you not strap bow down?
Bow is strapped and safety chained (transom straps on back too). It's not bouncing (really more like rocking on the bunks) much ... like I said, we made 600 miles just fine ... but it moves more than I like.

In this photo you can see the front of the trailer a little:

At the first cross member on the trailer, you can see where the bunk starts. There's nothing between that bunk, and the roller at the bow-stop. Nothing along the keel anywhere. So if that bow isn't snug on that roller, it'll rock some.

Not a big concern right now, the bunks seem to be supporting it just fine. Just interesting to me ... and apparently a place where I'm kinda' fixated :tinfoil3:

I've seen the double rollers on the winch stand. Might provide a little more stability.
