I guess if you arent going Tin, at least you're going non-obsolete ;)

Is RIP WLOD appropriate? Or just adding a new rig to the fleet?

Wait, is that someone else's boat, just down for a visit? Am I on punked? Wheres that Kutcher fella?

Rod Sterling...

Theres probably already 5 members googling
Rod Sterling

If you find you're driveway is not in another space and time you may have entered the MBS Zone. :spy:

More details please.:hungry:

Did one of those blue pills fall in your boat?
:pound: ... that one got me. Bravo.

Sorry y'all ... I didn't mean to drift this all morning. Was just playing a little, and then got wrapped up at work and took lunch late.

Wait, is that someone else's boat, just down for a visit? Am I on punked? Wheres that Kutcher fella?
I ran up to Michigan this weekend to grab my folks' boat before winter. Dad bought this boat new and the last several years it's been under-used, and they've been having trouble maintaining it. It's been at the family cottage since it was purchased, sittin' at our dock for the summer and in the storage barn for the winter.

They asked if I wanted it ... so, it's down here for sea trials and a good cleanin'.

... I guess if you arent going Tin, at least you're going non-obsolete ;)
... ain't that the truth. Manuals for my drive are all translated from cave drawings.

And you just got kicked out of the Trihaul (sic) Club.
"trihaul" = love it. Yeah ... we'll see. See below ...

Dunno' yet. See next post ... and besides, what would the forums be like without me touting the good side of tri-hulls and painting smiley faces on all of the Stringer drives, right?

Ayuh,.... I knew it was only a matter of time before ya slipped over to the dark side,.....
Well, prepare for me to start really butterin' you up ... 'cuz I'm already scratchin' my head on a couple things for this drive.

So, this is a 2002 Bayliner 1950 Capri Classic (I would have thought it was one or the other, but the sales sheet has it as that exactly). 3.0l 135HP Mercruiser Alpha 1.

She's a full 2' longer than the Silverline, and I think a little wider (gotta' go back and look at the real beam on the Silverline). My biggest immediate issue is storage. I'm not sure this one'll fit in the garage, so for this winter a good friend is letting me borrow a spot on their property. That gives me some time to make decisions.

I had her runnin' up North this weekend, and comparative to the Silverline she's a rocket ship. I'm assuming the 3.0l will be more fuel efficient ... but it sure is a noisy rascal. The Silverline is much more quiet at idle. She's dirty from sitting at the dock and under trees all summer, but everything seems solid and dry. The family likes the extra space on board, and the better potential for skiing and such.

So, we've got to decide if we like one more than the other ... and then if one HAS to go. There's a potential MBS developing here.

Humorously, if I wind up needing to sell the Silverline ... I'm gonna' have to get all of the members to play along when the first post about the CraigsList Ad comes up! "Welcome aboard: Stringers are GREAT drives. You should absolutely buy that boat!" :D

Put a swing-away tongue on your trailer if storage is an issue. I could get my SeaRay 190 into my short little 2-car garage with the swing-away tongue.

I didn't have any problems keeping my 2005 195 classic in the garage, even without folding the tongue in. But that trailer doesn't look like what you normally see on a Bayliner either.

Trailer is an Escort trailer. I'd call it weird, but I've never owned one this new ... no rollers under the keel. Just the bunks and the bow roller. It looks really unsupported to me, but it rolled 600 miles with NO problems at all. And the boat is rock solid on there even with me (230lbs) running from stern to bow.

I've just gotta try it to see. I might have to jockey some stuff around in the garage to make it fit. We'll see what happens ...

Never seen a bow rider on a trailer with keel rollers, that is fishing boat stuff;). Thing that looks odd is the adjustable winch post, bayliners typically have a factory trailer with no adjustments.

Ahhh ... Gotcha'. This is the trailer it came with. Not sure how they got paired up as Dad did the buyin'. Will try crammin' it in the garage later this week ... after a thorough cleaning.

Took a run on the lake tonight with the Admiral and her staff. You can definitely feel the extra space inside: She's got about an extra 8" of beam over the Silverline and is just shy of a full 2' longer. It planes out very quickly, about 3200 RPM at 22 MPH or so. WOT we hit 40MPH with 4 adults and 3 dogs. 3000 RPM was supposedly the most efficient place to run it, but it's real mushy at 3000 RPM ... seems to want to drag it's tail and cut making about 18MPH. The extra couple hundred RPM and it's nice and smooth on the water.

I think the starter is gonna' give me problems, and it's runnin' kinda' rough right now. I'll start diggin' into some of that toward the weekend.

Funny story #1 - I mentioned that it's considerably louder than the Stringer on my other boat. Admiral was sittin' in the stern seat next to the engine box with our young lab. He's all wound up to get an evening swim in, but when I kicked on the Merc the noise was a new one for him. Once we passed the NO WAKE bouy, I kicked all 135 ponies up ... noise startled the dog so much he christened the carpet for us :tsk:

Funny story #2 - Middle kid is up in the bow rider enjoying the cushions (much more plush than the ole' '72), and says, "this boat seems to really take the waves easier than the Silverline does Dad." ... well, there goes the old "tri-haul" debate

I feel betrayed. :fish: Nothing beats the lateral stability of a tri-hull when your fishn'. Most everything else the deep-v wins. One for playn', the other for fishn'? Good luck, either way something new to a guy is always good fun!
