Guy is selling 2012 Yamaha 190sx and wants 20,500. The boat was new in 2012 for 24,999. seems like it should be a bit cheaper since it is already 3 years old with 100 hours on it.

What are your thoughts?

Same boat likely costs 35k new now. My 2012 Malibu is actually going up in value due to the crazy inflation in new boat prices.

The MSRP on the new model is $27499 and dealers are selling them for that. That price seems high.

It depends on your location, but in my area, no, that is not a good deal.

I feel like it is a bit high as well. As thumper mentioned, new, 2015 which added some features is 27,500, and I am thinking of calling around to see if any dealer wants to know a little off on that price. Right now yamaha is running a deal, 3 years of additional warranty or 1k off the price. So, potentially I could get a new 2015 for 26,500....

I am thinking about making him an offer of 19 and going no higher than 19,500. I am in rochester NY and the boat is in Buffalo NY. Our season is coming to an end soon.

I'm a 50 year Buffalo veteran. Might I ask who the dealer is? Maybe I could offer suggestions.

I would say 18 should be your highest depending on condition.

Don't buy it. Offer what you think it is worth to you, but that would be it. If you are way apart, don't expect much to become of it.

Prices are regional but that seems rich to me. Some states there sales tax included in your private party purcahse, some not. New will almost always have sales tax.

I believe that model has a super charged and non supercharged option, so you should make sure you comparing the same power options when looking up prices.

2015/2016 model prices are kind of irrelevant. What matters is the sell price of 2012 model, with the features, and the depreciation. It sounds to me like he is pricing it based on the payoff amount of his loan, not the actual value as a result of depreciation. What is the reasonable amount of depreciation after 2 seasons and 100 hours? Value is what someone is willing to pay for it.

He is ASKING 20,500 which in my book means he is ready to take 20,000 and you say your ready to go as high as 19,500 so your not far off in what he wants and what you will pay. I would simply offer him 19,000 and be ready to walk away[ or negoiate to 19,500 at that point, going up from 19 to 19,250 then 19,5] Tell him your looking hard at boats and if changes his mind and your still without a boat to have him call you and he has a deal. Odds are he will call, there are a ****load of boats for sale between Erie/Finger Lakes/Syracuse/Buffalo/Rochester/Chatauqua/Watertown all within 2 hours of your location and let him know that as well.......The boat was listed two months ago,THAT is in your favor,he hasn't been able to sell it and the summer is dwindling away. Also the list is probably not what he paid for it,dont know to many people that pay full list. The boat is not from NY the reg numbers start with MS not sure if thats Mississippi or Mass. you may want to make sure it was fresh water run only if from a ocean state.
