I have several Penn 109 reels. I dont see that Penn makes them anymore, at least not by that model name. I intend to do some light salmon fishing here in seattle. I think they would be suitable, but what is the difference between these 109's and the 209 or other models? Thanks for the response.

Re: Penn 109 reel

I used to have a Penn 109 and sold it. I have several 209 that I currently use. If I remember right, the 109 when casted, the handle keeps on spinning. The 209's are pretty much the standard levelwind, the manual says 20 pound test, and I've spooled mine with 40 when I go offshore. The 109 and model 9 are very similiar and use 15 pound test as the standard line. The gear ratio for the 109 and 9 are 3.4 to 1, the 209 is 2.8 to 1.
