1989 5hp self accelerating !

2 stroke Starts fine but...in neutral...a small turn on the handle starts a full acceleration...just about stall it to bring it back down. in gear it is fine at idle speed but dies to near stalling when you try to speed up..? any ideas for my haunted motor?

I would look at all linkage (carb & others), carb butterfly disc ,and monitor timing to see what it was doing

cleaned the carb and all mechanical parts look ok...starts...I can adjust the choke a little but then if I don't touch anything it accelerates to max and seems like this causes it to starve itself of fuel and then it stalls in a few seconds....whole process lasts about 20 seconds. What would cause it to race like that???

oh,...and it would seem that it is a 2002 as per the model#
