rattle 200 1994 yamaha 2 stroke

Just changed out the water pump. The metal collar and plastic sleeve that house the wave washer seemed to be pressed on, as in very difficult to get off.
After reassembly I could not get that tight fit again and the lower unit rattles in a big way.
What would be proper procedure to eliminate up and down play in the shaft?

Odds are good that upon removal that those washers and collar were rendered unusable and should be replaced with new ones....of course the rattle won't hurt anything while you're waiting for your new pieces to arrive....then replace them....hold up on the driveshaft while tapping them down to take up any up and down play.....no big problem here except for another removal of lower unit.....
