I have a 2008 Yamaha 50 2-stroke. I was wondering if anyone could help me. My trim is making a bad grinding sound that just started not too long ago. It still works through the full motion, but it is very noisy. I changed the fluid and the old stuff looked really bad. It made it a little better but it is still very noisy. I'm not sure what part to order (pump? ..motor?) I would greatly appreciate if anyone has any ideas.

Hi Chuck

One of those cheap mechanics' stethoscopes might help you to determine which component is making the noise. Get someone to tilt it up and down for you while you have a listen around. Well worth the investment.

A dab of grease on the tip of each ram may quiet the trim tabs as they contact the motor. Air bubbles in the system can make noise....maybe purge/refill the unit several times....

I am fairly sure the 50 does not have the trim rams separate from the tilt, so noise is more than likely air in system or pivot point binding.
Can you explain what you meant by fluid looked really bad
