Hi all,

New here and have an issue with my 1996 Yamaha 150 on my Skeeter 190ZX bass boat. Was out yesterday when I encountered this issue. For some reason, I was unable to shift into neutral or reverse. As soon as the engine would turn over, the boat would start going forward. This happened even if the throttle position was in neutral or reverse. Has anyone encountered this before and know what the issue may be?

The engine ran well and had no issue getting up on plane--the boat has a hotfoot so I don't think the issue is the throttle cable. Could it be the shift cable?

Sorry if this is question has been asked before.

Thank you for any input.

have you thought about looking to see what is moving when you move the shifter?

I had the same problem this summer on my 1989 115 Yamaha. It turned out to be the
shift shaft was broken 4" above the lower gears. But I agree that you need 2 people to see what isn't moving
when you shift. Check it out, I hope it is the cable for you. Good luck, John
