1990 Yamaha 175 hp 2 stroke overheating when flushing with earmuffs

My 1990 Yamaha 175 outboard started to overheat when flushing with earmuffs (incoming water both sides) did not do that before. In the water when cruising no problem what gives?

No worries. Very, very common issue. Google it. Just ran my Suzuki all season long with no issues. Put it on the muffs to winterize fuel...overheat. You can block extra intake ports add better muffs, up size your hose, etc. etc. Motor needs more volume.
