just bought a pair of 2001 Yamaha sx225hp motors - in speaking to several locals about the installation, many recommend not hooking up the oil injection system- they mix their own fuel instead. reason- less headaches, less chance of oil clogs, looking for anyone thoughts, suggestions and method of override the system, not under warranty so I think this is a viable alternative

It can be done.

Would I do it? Not a chance. That system is very, very reliable.

The power trim and tilt might go out. Why not disable it?

The key switch might fail. Why not just twist some wires together?

A prop nut might come off. Why not double them up?

You might have a propeller strike. Why not buy and install one of those cage dohickeys that surround the propeller?

You will be increasing the use of your oil. A greater chance of fouling the plugs and the O2 sensor will come with it.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

how do you expect to mix that much fuel properly
You sure cannot pick up the tank and shake it like the small portable tanks

Dumping gallons of oil into a tank and hoping it gets mixed properly is not a good idea

How many times do we have to go through this. We all know that people hanging around the docks are much smarter than us lowly Yamaha mechanics. I think I'll make paper planes out of those certificates hanging on the wall.
