2004 DF 70 Suzuki 4 stroke lowerr unit shifter seal replace

I have attempted to change the lower unit shifter seal on my 70 HP 4 stroke Suzuki engine. I have the 3 bolts out of the shifter housing. I have the housing loose but it won't come off. I lift the housing up but it goes back down like its got a spring or something under it.. I don't want to break anything or use to much force so I thought I would try for some information on this forum of how to remove the housing.... Thanks for any help...

My manual didn't show me how to get it apart. But it appears that the prop shaft assembly has to be removed to get to the shift linkage so it can be disconnected.. I thought it was a matter of removing 3 bolts and the shift cover plate but that's not the case here..
