I have an 85 50 horse yamaha, and it's been acing weird lately. Whenever I leave the hole shot on my small bass boat, it gets up on plane but it won't go above 3500 - 3750 RPMs. It usually runs around 5k. It's like it's bogged down or something. If you don't have the motor in gear or with a load on it, it will rev up to 6k. Could this be my carbs need cleaning or something? New fuel line last year, and 100% gas. It just won't push it like it did. Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like you're really making power on only 2 of the cylinders, possibly/probably due to plugged carb/carbs jets....need to be cleaned and set....

Something that could be done at home fairly easy? I have a service manual somewhere. I'm very handy. Just not much experience with outboards. Mostly with cars and trucks.

check you fuel pump to make sure it is not leaking into #3 crankcase
Make sure all cylinders have good compression and have spark
and the proper timing at idle and WOT
