I own a 1989 65 hp Suzuki. I have been playing around with different propellers and I was curious if anyone knows what is the right rpm's for this type of motor at wide open throttle.

Around 5800 rpm, you will start to hit the rev limiter at around 6000rpm

Thanks. What is the rev limiter. I have a light for that but no one knows what it is.

rev limiter = revolution limiter: There is a feature in the ignition system that prevents the engine from reving higher than whatever the "rev limiter" is set to. If it is 6000 rpm, the light comes on and/or the ignition interrupts the spark to prevent -- you guessed it -- over reving.

Another dumb question for you Silvertip. The gage on my dash for my RPMs, will this be accurate. I hit 6400 RPMs the last two times I went fishing and the rev limiter never kicked in. This is with the same prop that I have been using and all summer I have been at 5800. So I am not wondering how accurate the RMP meter is. If you come back saying that they can be off, how does one tell then what RPMs they are running at. Sorry for the dumb questions, but I am lucky I know how to put gas in the tank and fill tires with air. Thanks.

have it checked against a shop meter to make sure it is still accurate
All electronic parts can go bad and switches inside tach can get bad connections
