Does anyone know if it's necessary to remove the air intake cover to spray carb cleaner? Are there any holes designed for this on this motor? It's a hassle removing the cover due to 8 bolts, gaskets, linkage etc. I'm have to spray every few weeks. Thanks.

If you want to clean the carbs they need to come off and be taken apart to clean properly.
Maybe that is why you have problems every few weeks

spraying carb cleaner along the outside or even through the throats does not clean them

Fully disassembled and soaked in a heated ultrasonic cleaner is needed to get all of the internal passageways cleaned. Most all else is just a waste of time. In my experience anyway.
