My 2007 115HP, with 100 hours on it as developed a noise :
- Noise coming from mid-section of Outboard, near or above water pump.
- No noise on start-up
- Noise starts after normal operation running 20 - 30 MPH and 3000 - 5000 rpm for 10 - 15 min.
- Noise is present in neutral when idling after normal operation
- Noise stops after running wake speeds for 10 - 15 min.
- Noise is cycling / spinning, scratching / sanding noise
- I boat in Gulf of Mexico Salt water
I have read the forms and found similar symptoms, but all are talking about a high squeal
coming from a drive shaft bushing, I am experiencing a different noise coming from the
midsection near water pump, I suspect a a drive shaft bearing, not bushing, but have
no metal or water in lower unit oil. Strange a bearing would go out in 100 hrs. Any ideas?
Also how do the drive shaft bearings get lubed? As far as I can see in diagrams the are in the
upper part of the lower unit and protected by seals, so does the lower oil lube them ?
