Basic 1995 Yamaha 150 V6 SaltWater Series Questions

Being an outboard novice, been fixing up this boat/motor. Finally got the motor to fire up and run today...long story. But was hard to tell is it was pumping water, so I shut it off after only maybe 60 seconds.

Questions:

1. When running is there a water stream that's supposed to come out from somewhere? I see two square holes on the rear up near the cowling lip. Or does the water and exhaust come out thru the prop hub?
2. Any issues/difficulties with replacing the impeller I'm assuming is in the lower unit? Regardless I will need to replace it since the boat had sat since 2010 (takeover fixer upper).
3. Anything on the motor itself to look at or investigate with regards to cycling water thru it to ensure nothing is clogged?

If this helps, according to the chart posted in a sticky the motor shows as a 1996? The PID tag on the port side of the transom mount reads as follows:

Model name: S150TXRU

Then...

Prefix model code: C64
Transom/shaft length: UL
Serial #: 500945
