1986 Yamaha 150, 2 stroke. Ran great last week, no issues. Currently starts and runs, but runs rich. Stalls after 10-20 seconds, backfires (farting and popping).

Just added dual batts. Positive 12v from battery was accidently applied to entire ground circuit for 5 minutes. Smoked, and replaced ground wire in center console. Ground wires on motor appear to have survived. Just got tilt trim working after incident by replacing servo fuse on motor.

Suspect I smoked electronic ignition/advance. Do you folks think I should start by replacing the voltage control unit (black box that looks like its the hub of the electrical on the engine)?

Dont suspect carbs or fuel system at this point, but could use guidance.
