When I put the thing in choke, it starts right up on first pull and when i push the choke in it revs high and will stay running for about 20 seconds. but eventually it slows down and than dies. dont know what the deal is. And I need guidance about the idle screw and three mixture screws. What should they be set at? Motor is an 89 yamaha 30sf

Try pushing the choke in only partially for a little longer. Carbed engines are not EFI like your car, they take some tinkering to keep running when cold. Usually a little above idle and 1/2 choke for a minute or two and you are good to go.
