For the first time we broke down today. Bought boat 6 months ago and have put 50 hrs on it w/out any problems until today. We had been cruising for 3 hours and all of a sudden everything cuts off. No power for lights, tilt, starter. Only thing worked was factory horn. We saw small amount of smoke from cowling and definately an electrical odor. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well remove the cowling and see if you see any burnt items

Cowling removed when it happened and nothing obvious. Battery and kill switch OK. Cables are good but positive was slightly loose at battery.

Rectifier was definately burnt. Found positive battery connection slightly loose. Tightened connection and replaced rectifier. Ran great for hours Sunday. Only question/problem I have now is the factory voltmeter on the dash says I have 15 volts when running at cruising speed. Sits at about 13 when idling and goes below 12 when cranking. Could this 15 volts be too high and cause any damage?
