I'm looking at buying a '96 Yamaha 130 but the steering bracket assembly is badly rusted and needs to be replaced. How big of a job is that? Looks like a $400 part new?? Pricey!

I believe you will need to pull the power head, lower unit, and disassemble what is left to get that replaced. May end up breaking some bolts off on a motor that old and rusted

After reading some threads and seeing how rusted the assembly is, my guess is that the power head bolts will probably be rusted. It sounds like it could be pretty involved pretty fast from what I can see.

You will give up before you ever get it out. Better to find a good used exhaust stack and transom assembly and put your lower unit and powerhead on it.
