Yamaha 2004, 15 hp boat motor, stuck in gear

I recently purchased a used 2004, yamaha 15 hp, 4 stroke. today was the first day I took it out, aside from the vibration in ran good. When I returned to load it, I could not get it out of first gear and had to puch it up on my trailer. Any ideas on why or what I can do. After coming home I messed with it and still no luck. It has to be in neutral to start so as of now i am out $1400. I need some help.

How many gears does this motor have if it is stuck in first?

You will have to have a look to see what is binding up. maybe something has come loose and jammed up linkage.

Motor should not be vibrating.
