1990 8hp Suzuki DT8C High Speed RPM's

I have a 1090 8hp Suzuki that idles fine but at wot it does not get to top rpm's. Took it out the other day and where it used to push my boat 15mph it only goes 8mph now. At wot it sounds like it wants to get up to speed but doesn?t (sounds like it?s missing). So I pulled the carb and took it completely apart and soaked it in carb cleaner over night. Now it idles great but still does not get to top rpm's. Pulled the plugs and they are wet and black.

I had let it sit up for a year one time and when I started it would scream. Would get to top rpms but got how. Exhaust port water was almost too hot to touch. After I cleaned the carb it would not get to top rpm's then.

might only be firing on one cyl - check compression and for spark on both

Thanks Howard, I pulled each plug wire and it got slightly worse and compression is good and equal on both.

I did find a pin hole in my primer bulb, so I replaced it. Took it out for a test this morning and all was good. Got up to 15.5mph with me and my son. Even the exhaust water was good. Funny how picky these motors are.
