Hello, I am new to site
I have 1998 Yamaha 130 TLRW V-4
Can someone give me some Idea what is problem on my outboard?:
One day, I'd put my boat in the water and took off after few minutes(@ 3000 RPM) I've got an alarm
No indication on Digital gauge After slowed down to Idle alarm stopped in couple of minutes later
I'd repeated and samething again
So, Loaded up and headed back to Home
Few days later I'd changed water pump Impeller(By local marine shop) and instaslled new thermostats
After verified Oil tank sensors and switches were OK
Ran again with garden hose @2400 RPM Alarm again,
soon as alarmed I took cover off and put my hands on the engine where thermo,s are locate
Portside was much Hotter then Starb. side So, I un-plugged Temp sensor on Portside and alarm stopped
Then I was thinking, Mmm- must be build up in the water jacket
I took cover off also Cylinder head as well to clean it, It wasn't bad almost very clean
any one have any Idea what I need check next?
Thanks:

Why did the gauges not show an overheat?
Is it suppose to?

Might try pulling and testing sensor to see if it is in spec

I'd tested both sensor with pot of water and it closes some around 170 degrees
Also, I'd swaped sensors left side to right and right to left
sensors are fine
Not sure why gauge is not showing the temp alarm but, it works on oil alarm(tested).

Thanks

Did your "local marine shop" inspect or replace pressure control valves?....just a thought.

No But, I'd just ordered Valve kit today.
I should receive in next couple days.
I have not removed yet when I get the new valve I will take it off and post with update.

Can you tell me what it does when p.c valve get stuck open or close?
I am not sure how Pressure control valve works.
thanks
Thanks

PRV when stuck open will dump too much water and cause low RPM overheat because of motor not filling all the way. Top cylinders without water will overheat

I just replaced my Pressure Control Valve for the first time since motor was new(1999), and there was a good bit of calcium/mineral/corrosion deposits in and around the valve which could have caused sticking. I just had an overheat buzzer for the first time ever, and I'm confident either the thermostat or PCV valve may have caused it, so I replaced them both. Hope it fixes your problem! Good Luck!:)

Hey people,
Thanks for inputs on my problem I think ya'd point me to direction whre the problem was,
Here is what I found(I hope fixed problem)
my parts(PRV, Head gaskets, etc...) came in and I replaced PRV first, It wasn't that bad but, little buid up around edge
next, I removed water jacket cover that wasn't too dirty either,
Finaly, starting to loosen up the headbolts and found 2 of headbolts were not tight
after pulled head It had blown gasket near by temp sensor
I may wrong but, I think thats(Blowing combustion gas to water jacket near sensor) what caused overheating alarm
anyway, after New gaskets(Both side) and PRV Kits
put everythng back and started with ear muff
ran for about 5 min. at 3000 rpm No-alarm and I put my hand on the thermostat housing
even temp. both side and I was able to keep my hands on it.
I'll try on the water this weekend see what it does.
Thanks Guys.
