1984 Yamaha lower unit removal

I am trying to remove the lower unit but the shift shaft is holding it on. where is this disconnected? I have read about screws under starter and carbs but dont see anything on the left side of the motor if viewed from behind the boat. does this shaft stay connected to the lower unit, or is it sisconnected somewhere in the lower housing?

disconnects in lower housing i believe, ]
of course do not know where as we do not know what this motor is
