I am looking to purchase used bass boat and see it has Yamaha 2002 225 OX66 and learned this is a saltwater version of EFI.
Can anyone comment on reliability and importantly difference or problems with buying a saltwater motor for freshwater use?

I see a lot of high pressure pump replacements and rings and fuel filters needed. How much of problem is this motor and why shouldnt I wait to buy freshwater?

I am not personally familiar with that specific engine, however with the possibility of repowering, I have inquired with several competent yamaha techs, and they give that motor high marks.

I ran a 99 fuel injected SX150 OX66 in fresh water for 9 yrs.
Started every time and ran good.

Would have lasted longer but the head gaskets dried out and let water get in and started knocking.
I did not know that they did that or i would have changed them.
