2001 Yamaha, 115 HP, 4-stroke, stalling on acceleration from idle

I have a stalling 2001 YAMAHA F115 four-stroke. It stalls as the throttle is applied just after you have put in gear. Also stalls when you come down in RPM when approaching the dock. I saw a similar forum discussion at http://www.yamahaoutboardparts.com/f...0-th15195.html between users High Sierra and rodbolt17. I am a reasonably proficient mechanic, (i.e. NOT mechanically challenged) but I do not have a great deal of experience with outboards. Could this be related to a fuel filter or other fuel issue? I have not replaced the fuel filter in a few years.

If you read that thread then you know what all can be a problem and just replacing a fuel filter probably will not fix yours, but it never hurts to do all you can before taking to a good Yamaha shop to be checked out
