I am having an issue with my '86 Yama 70 HP. We are not getting spark, after testing, it appears we are getting power to the little black box (CDI Box from what I have found through Google), but there is no power that is coming off of it. After talking with a friend, he mentioned it could also be a stator? Everything I have gathered thus far, seems to show that these 70HP had issues with the CDI Box. Is there a clear way to test either the stator or the box itself? Would it even be the stator? The motor cranks easily but does not spark. Please help. Thanks.

Hi, Bernard.

Welcome to iboats. :)

A Yamaha service manual for your motor will give the specs and the equipment needed to test the ignition system.
The inputs to the CDI should be a charge coil and a pulsar coil.
If there is not good output with good input to cdi then there could be a problem with the CDI or the kill circuit in or to controls
