Yamaha 9.9 Can I change from short shaft to long shaft?

I bought a 1989 9.9 short shaft for a kicker motor for my sailboat. I messured but the water intakes is rather high. I think the intakes are just the same height as water line. Can I get a extension adapter?

Thank you.... I e-mail them and waiting for a reply. Another question..I bought the 9-9 outboard motor as a 1989 4 stroke. I didn't see any 4 strokes offered for that year. 1995 is the first year I see is 1995 for a 4 stroke. Was the previous owner mistaken about the year of the motor. It is a 9.9 SF serial number 005691. thanks branchriver

If you post the complete model # someone may be able to help, unless it is not a US model
