Yamaha year definition

I?ve got a YAMAHA 2 stroke,2cylinder 40 HP motor with electrical and manual start serial number 676BS10220 could someone please help me find out the year of of this model....I?m so stuck with the wiring so my head is mostly under water when i?m in my boat...I so grateful for every help i can get...Thanx in advance..b.t.w greetings from Sweden

I had an issue with understanding the year of my Yamaha, I went to the Yamaha site and looked for a part (impella) for the approximate year of the motor. Additional data on my engine bracket had an XF included, from this data I found the V6 Excel XF was made in 89. It took a little time but I was able to pin it down and this was confirmed by a member on this site.

Your looking at the wrong number.
There should be a model number, that ends in a letter, if that makes sense.
