I just bought a Boston Whaler w/ 1996 Yamaha 85. I had no power to the power trim so I removed the plug to raise the motor for travel. Lots of fluid poured out when I lifted the motor.

When I tried to replace the fluid, it seems to be full after pouring 1 ounce. But when I move the piston, it goes down.

Can somebody tell me or post a video on how to do.
Thanks Ron

Re: 1996 Yamaha 85 power trim fluid replacement

When you say you removed the plug, are you talking about the straight slotted by pass valve for manually raising the motor or the fill cap on the reservoir ? First, you are going to have to get the pump motor working to start circulating fluid. Let the motor down and start operating the pump with the fill cap on. Each time you raise the motor, remove the fill cap and add some more ATF with a small syringe. Eventually you must get the reservoir full, no bubbles, with the motor trimmed/ tilted full up. regards FRED
