What octane gas to use for 1987 Yamaha Pro v 150 hp

Hello,

I do not have an owners manual. My 1987 Yamaha Pro v 150 hp runs not so good. Ohe gas that I'm using is 87 octane. Am I using the right gas?

Does using the correct octane really matter, can it make the boat motor run or not run.

Octane makes little or no difference except in your wallet. You are using the correct octane.

the higher the octane the slower the fuel burns, so too high of an octane could cause problems with the fuel still burning as it leaves the motor overheating the exhaust and burning it. But it will not cause it to not start
