Switch on handle does not work in 'down' position, can tilt motor up, not down.
I've shot some wd40 in th switch and this seems to give contact ...for a while.
Switch on motor works both up & down.
Has anyone ever taken the handle apart? I' m hoping that maybe some cleaning of contacts will fix this. If not, maybe there is a contact that needs replacing.

The switch should be pretty much sealed. It is easy a non-serviceable switch that is easy to replace. Just get a new one and change it out. Just pay attention as you are taking the control box apart. Remove handle, and disassemble to get the shift lock out (don't lose spring), pull covers off box and install your new switch and route wires the same way that they come out.

Re: yamaha 703 control tilt switch

My tilt switch hasn't worked since 1985. There again, our lake is deep and I seldom have to change the trim on a pontoon boat. I can manually lift it with the switch on the motor if needed.

You can lookup the parts online--and cut a copy of the 703 parts drawing while you're at it. I don't think it's very difficult to take apart the unit.
