I was at the inlet today and ended up cracking the lower unit on my Yamaha 75 hp.
Does anyone know if they can be welded? It didn?t leak or anything. I didn?t even know it happened until I put it on the muffs to flush and saw the crack.

If you pull the prop and look at the inside of the lower unit it may tell you that the reason for the crack is expansion from corrosion.
I hope not, but look and see what caused the crack

Re: Cracked lower unit Yamaha 75 hp

That looks pretty nasty. I had a leg that had been welded by a previous owner that wasnt done all that well. Ended up having the seals go and getting water into the oil. As a side issue he had put the prop on without the spacers and there was a fair amount of corrosion to the extent that a mate and I couldnt get the prop off with sledgehammers! Ended up ditching the whole leg and getting another. If you weld it make sure it dosent get to hot to stuff the seals inside and keep an eye on the oil for water. If it is from corrosion as 99yam40 says, start looking for a new one.
