Hi,
I have just replaced the impeller on a small but up-to-now reliable 2hp Yamaha outboard (1985). Before I replaced the impeller she idled beautifully and started 1st or 2nd pull. She still starts well and revs up and pumps heaps of water but she just wont idle.

What I have tried so far:

Drained old fuel and put fresh fuel in to the correct mixture

Taken the idle mixture screw out and blasted with compressed air then reset mixture to original setting.

Checked proper operation of the choke (all okay)

Checked spark plug (all okay)

Taken out main jet and blasted with air (all clear)

The water impeller is the correct one but is very tight - could it be that it needs to be "run in" and that its tightness is causing it to stall at low revs because it is only a 2hp motor?

I would really appreciate your thoughts.

Cheers, Mark
