Outboard started when still in reverse (shiftrod slightly out of adjustment may be).Hard to shift forward,did not want to break anything ,reversed to the boatdock about 1000 feet away.
Removed shift cable end,shift handle moved freely.Started whith muff,still couldnot push down on shifrod(at connector)
I have the Clymer manual,but i dont want to wast time teardown the gear case if there is a simple fix.
