Hi guys - great forum. You should be congratulated.

I have an old 15a Yamaha 15hp with a lighting coil.

I have read every forum on the 'net re this topic. I have no problems with wiring it up to a regulator and sending the power to my 19ah gel motorbike battery.

My question is that although I realise that not having a battery connected will fry the regulator - what if I don't always want/need dc power in my zodiac on every occassion I take it out?

Should I wire a switch under the cowl to stop one of the coil wires from sending ac to the reg? (if there is no battery present)

My other option is to send the ac to a reg mounted next to the battery. I could then unplug the reg and battery as one unit if I didn't need dc that day

Does anyone have any ideas or see any shortcomings in this arrangement?

Anyone have a clue where I can get a manual for this o/b? It is a '77? (Same as the mariner 15a of the same year)

Cheers

Mark
