I have a Suzuki 115 short shaft outboard with the lower unit shot. I purchased a very cheap lower unit on ebay and it turned out to be a long shaft. The drive shaft in my blown lower unit is still good. Can anybody offer some info on the procedure to swap the shafts? Also is it a matter of just swapping the shaft or does it have to be shimmed?
Thanks

drive shaft must be reshimmed when you swap them.

Thanks for the reply, is there a specification that it has to be shimmed to? Also is this a kit? Thanks

no kit, some speacial tooling is required.
how I do it is to check fwd to pinion backlash BEFORE removing the shaft from the case your going to use.
that way AFTER using the shimming procedure I can double check lash then ill slightly adjust shimming to obtain the previously recorded lash.
that way I dont disturb the pinion to fwd gear wear pattern.
