Any known issues with a 1996 225 Suzuki?
Do these engine use double spark plugs?

If your friend is the type that does his own repairs, he should take a gander at how bad the Suzuki service manual is. If he's the type that has a shop do repairs, he should make sure there is a shop that handles Suzuki in the area. It's not a service-prone outboard, but some areas don't seem to have shops that handle Suzuki.

The "SS" model is the one with dual spark plugs and I think they only came in 150hp flavor.

My friend does his own repairs/maitainance and is very capable............

So is this a reliable powerplant?

There weren't many sold compared to OMC / Merc / Yamaha . It's reliable. Slightly less corrosion-resistant when compared to the other manufacturers' products.
