I sell used parts and closed out a marina recently. Like too many mechanics, the owner had just "remembered" what everything was. He couldn't be bothered to mark anything. In any case, I have a handful of Yamaha powerheads complete with parts here and I'm trying to identify them. They were all removed from the mid-section. The one we're looking at at the moment is a 3 cylinder. The starter that's on it fits and works so assuming that it's the correct one, it narrowed it down to a 1984-88 40 or 50 HP engine. The starter is Hitachi 6H4-81800-12.

The side of the block is stamped with 6H400.

The adaptor plate for the reed valves is stamped with 6H401.

The head cover is stamped with 6H400.

The inside of the fuel pump says 7FA (stamped)

The CDI is marked 6H4-21.

I hate having to ask this question. This is really a pet peeve for me that all of these manufacturers were too lazy to mark engines that cost thousands of dollars, beyond a little paper or aluminum tag not actually on the block. In any case, can anyone help me identify this block so we can move on to the next one? Thanks in advance.
