I have a 1986 Suzuki DT140 and it idles fine and will run on top fine, but when you engage the prop at low rpms it may run 15 seconds or 45 seconds and then it will die. It will start right back and do the same thing. I have changed fuel lines, rebuilt fuel pump, and changed all filters. Could someone give some advise on what my trouble could be or what to check next.

I will check that, but if thats the problem why will it idle and run on top? Do you have any other suggestions?

Re: 1986 Suzuki DT140 stalls

I have a 1986 DT115 and mine did the same thing. Trolling in idle and in no wake areas it seemed to stall. Under the engine cover there is an idle adjustment. I set it up one notch and it seemed to help. I believe the DT 115 and the DT 140 are the same, the 140 is just bored out a little more. It says in the manual the procedure for changing the idle setting. Mine also sat for 10years in a garage and I had to have the carbs rebuilt.

Did it stall before or after the carb. rebuild? The 140 has a nob on the side that you adjust the idle speed with. Thanks for the info. I will try that next trip to the lake.

Clean your carbs the idle circuit is most likely clogged up

Re: 1986 Suzuki DT140 stalls

If the idle circuit is dirty in the carbs why will it idle fine until you put a load on the engine. Could my problem be timing or the throttle position switch on the carb.? This thing running at idle without prop engaged and on top loaded is what baffels me. If it was dead on one end or the other I would think that it was dirty carbs. Need some help.
