I have a 2006 yamaha 150 2-stroke outboard with 40 hrs. on it. I ran it on memorial day with no problems. Today i tried to take it out and when i try to throttle up it dies on me. Its fine until i go above a 1000 rpms. when i got home i ran it with my hose attached to it and it ran fine. it seems it only does it when theres a load on the engine. any ideas? thanks

Here is a way to test fuel system

How old if the fuel?
Is there water in it?

As always check compression and spark on all cylinders, then make sure timing is doing what it is suppose to do and then work on the fuel issues. May need to pull and clean carbs if it has them , if not check the filters and pump pressures

the gas is new just filled up the tank. checked the fuel filter and that is all clear. someone at the boat launch said that it might be throttle sensor. have you heard of that? thanks for the link!
