I just recently purchased my first boat and the motor that came with it is a 1985 Suzuki dt 115. The motor has been setting for years, and it doesn't have hardly any hours on it at all. I started it up with the muffs on it, and there is no water coming out the discharge hole. I'm not sure if the thermostat can cause that problem, or if it needs a new water pump. I am not very familiar with boats with outboard motors, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure how much outboard repair knowledge you have given this is your first boat but there are a few simple things you can check youself before you take your engine to a marine service dept.

Make sure the tell tail water tube (pee tube) is clear. Bugs love to clog them. If you don't know when the last time the water pump was changed, then change it. If the boat is new to you it is in your best interest to pull the lower unit and inspect everything anyway as well as do a total maint job top to bottom. This way you know the condition of all parts etc.
