25 hp yamaha outboard prop shaft rot prob

hello all and thanks for your comments or suggestions in advance!
i hit a stump with my prop and it bent the blades, two of them, forward about 1/2 in. now i have play (rotational) in my prop shaft. i already took the prop off to check this. it still drives. but when hooked up to hose it takes a split second for the prop to catch and it seems to over rotate and then get into speed with the rpm of motor. any suggestions on what the prob is?? 25hp 2008 yam

Sounds like you have a bent prop and need a new one or have that one repaired by a prop shop.
You could have bent the shaft, so you need to have that checked as well.

All have a little play in the prop when in gear that I have seen. Check some other motors to see if yours is any different.
I have no idea what you mean by over rotate, no way a prop can run faster than the shaft.
